May and might

May, might se utilizan para dar y pedir permiso o hacer peticiones educadas, por ejemplo:

You may only use a pen for the exam
May I interrupt you?

También se utiliza para prohibir; en este caso se hace en negativa.

You may not leave the room now

Utilizamos may y might para expresar posibilidad en el presente o en el futuro. Might indica que la posibilidad es más remota. Se traducen como "puede que / quizas" (may) o "pudiera ser que" (might).

He may invite us to his party
They might win the match

También para expresar posibilidad en negativa.

He may not be ready
They might not be interested in our proposal

Así mismo, utilizamos estas dos partículas del inglés para hacer una sugerencia en el caso de que no haya una alternativa mejor.

The class has already started. The teacher won't let us interrupt. We may / might as well wait till the bell rings.

Para sugerir tambien algo educadamente cuando van seguidos de verbos como like y want.

You might like to drive us home

Para expresar que algo parecía posible en el pasado, pero aquí sólo empleamos might.

The car liiked like it might explode at any time
